Transportation in Macau - Taxi or Bus?

Hi All! Me %26amp; my wife r goin for a 1 day trip from HK to Macau on July 4th 2008. We%26#39;ll be visiting:

- Guia Fortress

- Leal Senado

- Largo de Senado

- Casino Lisboa

- Macau Tower

- A-Ma Temple

- St. Paul%26#39;s Cathedral

- Statue of Kun Lam

- Cybernetic Fountain

We were wondering wether traveling around by taxi or bus is more faster? If by Taxi, how do they calculate their fares? Is the fare calculation standard throughout Macau? We were thinking of going d cheaper way (by bus) but the bus routes are rather confusing as some have to go a big round before reaching to one destination, which is a waste of time. Do advise! Thanks a lot in advance!! Cheers!

Transportation in Macau - Taxi or Bus?

Hi, these sites are in some quite neat clusters; you can walk around sites in one cluster and then catch a taxi to the next site cluster.

Taxi fares are standard; MOP / HK$11 for the first two km, then charged by 200metres (I forget how much, sorry!) plus a small charge by the minute if the cab is stationary in traffic.

Sites that fit together are:

St Paul%26#39;s, Largo de Senado, Leal Senado, Lisboa.

Tower %26amp; cybernetic fountain.

Guia fortress (%26amp; Flora garden is an extension of it).

Kwun Iam statue (just opposite the cultural centre).

Ah Ma temple (%26amp; maritime museum just across the road).

If you want to further check how the sites are situated you can look at the interactive map at cn.macautourism.gov.mo

Tks for d tip Oisaan!! btw, we found out that we had to actually take a cable car to Guia Hill before reaching Guia Fortress... is it a long walk from the cable car terminal to the fortress?? from the map it looks like a long walk from one end to another!! Tks again!!

Really no need to take the world%26#39;s shotest cable car ride unless you want to do so: if you approach Guia Fortress from the Flora Garden, there are also steps you can walk up, or you can take a 6 or 28 bus up to the stop next to the Guia Hotel, which is nearly at the same level as the top of the cable car ride, and walk up a moderate slope from there, OR you can take a taxi even a couple of hundred metres further upo than the hotel and then walk.

By the way, Macau is really small - I walked from Mong Kok in the north down to St Paul%26#39;s Cathederal in half an hour, and then on to Casino Lisoba.

You can walk it in a big cirle, why sit on a bus?

Traffic quite congested in parts, just walk it.

Remember to grab a map or two (free) from the tourist info at the Ferry port.

Quote '; I walked from Mong Kok in the north';

Where is Mong Kok in Macau? It takes about 20-30 minutes by bus or taxi to get from Portas de Cerco in the north of Macau to the Lisboa or Senado Square so I doubt you could walk it in the same time.

Taxis are always going to be quicker than buses. If you want to go off Macau Island eg to the Venetian, it is worth taking the free shuttle from the port.

Thanks for d tip guys! i roughly calculated the distance from one place to another... the shortest would be about half a kilometer and the longest would be like 3 kilometers... i guess we%26#39;ll jus grab a taxi to move from one place to another to sav time... we have quite a number of places to go so... i%26#39;ll leave walking out of our itenirary (except largo %26amp; leal senado). One question though... we are planning to have lunch buffet at Macau Tower%26#39;s 360 cafe... is the food up there good? Thanks again!
