Things to do/ best shopping - Hong Kong

Hi Everyone - I am travelling to Hong Kong with my sister and staying for 5 nights in Mongkok. We will be basically shopping the whole time and are planning to spend 2 days in Shenzhen and the remainder in Hong kong. I was after recommendations on things we must see/do or the best places to shop (clothes, shoes, handbags, kids clothes etc). Also are there any public holidays from 27/4/08 - 02/05/08 ? Thanks

Things to do/ best shopping - Hong Kong

Hi eliAustralia, 01/05/2008 is Labour day, a lot of Chinese from China Mainland will visit Hong Kong during Golden Holiday Week. Start from this year the China Goverment have shorten this holiday. Not sure this year crowd, hope to be improved.

Causeway Bay is the place you can do shopping with Time Square, Sogo and some other shopping mall. If you want to buy imitate brand goods. Mongkok night market is the best place. Hope my info able to help, enjoy your stay.

shopping? causeway bay and tsim sha tsui.

things to see, victoria peak among others.

Difficult to know what you should see without knowing what your interests are. There are museums and art galleries etc galore. Mostly concentrated in one place in Kowloon. The peak has several entertaining things to do plus the view, and the ride on the cable car. There are amusement parks, including a small Disneyland.

As far as shopping goes the others are quite correct, and west of that have brilliant high-end shopping, including a silk market. If you can catch a sale at Sogo it will be brilliant, particularly handbags and shoes from memory. Times square has a huge square footage of high-end stores. These include the electronics and brand-name clothes to name a few. Kids clothes are difficult, depending on the age of the child. There are heaps of clothes for small children, say up to the age of five or six, they tend to be cutesy, my son wouldn%26#39;t even look at them. Anything above the age of eight seems much more difficult, there doesn%26#39;t seem to be the teen and preteen stuff you might be used to in Australia. Hope this helps.

I agree with the above poster that kids clothes are difficult to find for certain ages of children. I have 2 preteens, ages 9 and 12, and it was difficult to find anything. We finally found clothes for them at Stanley market (highly recommend shopping there). Some Roxy, some Gap, and some other unrecognizable brands. We also ended up at H%26amp;M, which had a lot of clothes for preteens.

A lot of kids clothing at the markets and even at SOGO are overly cutesy and/or have weird words/phrases on the clothing that are not really wearable in the Western world. At SOGO, just plain casual clothes for preteens cannot be found.

Ah, thanks for that, we%26#39;ll be going there around Christmas all being well. Have always avoided Stanley market after our first trip 20 or 30 years ago. Certainly not looking for teenage clothes then. Could you give us an indication as to where this H%26amp;M is??

Times Square in the Causeway is REALLY high end so don%26#39;t bother unless you want top designer stores (Gucci, Burberry, etc). The best ';market'; was Stanley Market and we had a great time with the vendors at the Ladies Market. It was quite an experience.

You should go to the Citygate outlet mall in Tung Chung. Plenty of footware, clothes, accessories shops and one electronic outlet shop (a3), the prices are at least 30% off retail. Tung Chung is on Lantau Island 45 mins from Mong Kok MTR Stn. As you are in Mong Kok, try Langham Place, Grand Century Plaza, Ladies Market, Fa Yeun St. (sportwear) %26amp; Sai Yeung Choi St. (electronics),to find these places just follow the signs in Mong Kok Stn. Also Temple St night market (Yau Ma Tei Stn).

Shops in Kowloon side open from 11am to 11pm, shops in HK Island side open from 10am to 10pm.

Not many people speak english in Shenzhen so unless you know where you are going get your destination written down in Chinese and/or note the bus number to get back to the train stn ';Lo Wu'; where the border is.

You must go to Victoria peak during the day and cross HK harbour by ferry at night for spectacular views of HK skyline and neon lights.
