Cost for Escorted Tour from Xian?

My friend is coming to Xian in May to volunteer as an ESL teacher for a month. She then wants to join an escorted English language tour to go to Guilin, Shanghai and end in Hong Kong.

Any suggestions for how this should be arranged and how much a good quality tour will cost?

Also, if she flies into Beijing for a few days before heading to Xian, how much does a same day ticket cost? Will she need to book the PEK-XFN portion ahead of time? Thnank you!

English is widely spoken in Hong Kong. There would also be few problems in Yangshuo (Guilin) and Shanghai is pretty easy to do as a non Chinese speaker as well.

Flights are easy to book using services such as elong.net (Xi%26#39;an - Shanghai - Guilin). There is a good sleeper bus from Yangshuo to Shenzhen (Hong Kong). Again she can use elong.net to book a ticket from Beijing to Xi%26#39;an.

Doing it herself would be much cheaper than doing a tour, and she has control of the quality - rather than shopping trips, meals in bad restaurants, visits to uninspiring attractions. However, there are many travel agents who are willing to take her money if she does not like to do it independently.
