Hello, I%26#39;m looking for a hotel (maybe 3 star) or hostel, that is fairly reasonably priced and clean and safe! I%26#39;m female and will be travelling alone so want somewhere where I feel secure. Not too bothered about meeting people etc as I%26#39;m only there a few days to shop! Previously I%26#39;ve stayed in the Minor World Convention Hotel but I gather this is all booked up.
Is the Captain Hostel pretty grubby?
Thanks!

Please define ';reasonably priced';. I never bother recommending places which aren%26#39;t clean, safe and centrally-located.
I don%26#39;t think the Captain%26#39;s Hostel would qualify as ';pretty grubby';, but I haven%26#39;t been in there in a while. I can find no excuses for the lousy service attitudes and overly high prices there though -- this is supposed to be a hostel, after all!

Especially since you know the general layout of Shanghai, the hotel reviews by neighborhood should be meaningful to you.
Hi it will be easier if we know yr price range since there r many 3 starrated hotels also as to the location whether u prefer at Puxi or Pudong.
Sorry - didn%26#39;t think of giving my %26#39;reasonable price%26#39; definition, I suppose everyone varies!
I would say around $30 to $40 USDs?
Thanks for all your help.
If you%26#39;re Australian, maybe it would make more sense to quote your price range in AUD instead of USD, since the latter%26#39;s RMB exchange rate at the moment is falling faster than a shooting star. Currently your budget is worth about 200-275 RMB.
I would suggest in that price range, Ambassador Hotel and Shangfu Holiday Hotel. Both are very well-located. Ambassador Hotel is one street south of Nanjing Lu pedestrian street and about 20m from the Bund; Shangfu Holiday Hotel is on Nanjing Lu pedestrian street and a very short walk from People%26#39;s Square metro interchange (lines 1, 2 %26amp; 8).
Thanks Ellyse, you%26#39;re so helpful - its much appreciated!
No problem, you%26#39;re welcome.
