Lo Wu shopping verses Stanley Market

WE are going to Hong Kong in May and have been hearing about the Shopping in Shenzhen, we have been to HK previously and had a great time at Stanley Market. How does LoWu shopping compare? Is it worth it to go to Shenzhen? Is it easy enough to ride the train there?

Lo Wu shopping verses Stanley Market

LoWu shopping is wild! Even if you don%26#39;t shop it%26#39;s a great experience. It%26#39;s much bigger than Stanley (five floors I think). However do be prepared for the touts. They make the touts in HK look like trainee shop assistants.

It is easy to get there by train on the KCR from Tsimshatsui East station which is near the Star Ferry terminal. You do need a visa.

We are taking a train from around Taishan to Hong Kong. Can someone tell me if is likely the train we are on would be one that would travel through Shenzhen? We are going there in two days so any comments would be most welcome! P.S. What%26#39;s a tout?

Any train entering HK must go through Shenzhen.

Tout (www.dictionary.com)

I%26#39;m not sure what Stanley market sells, but experience LoWu mainly has:

- electronics e.g. mp3 players, pirated DVDs, video games etc

- shoes (mainly synthetic)

- fake clothes and bags

- tailors including a fabric market

- massage and pedicure type shops

Of course there%26#39;s some other shops but the above is the majority of it.

Hope you have fun!

Stanley Market is a great shopping experience, and my favorite place to shop in HK because of the atmosphere and range of products. Lo Wu in Shenzhen is a bit more confusing - much bigger, less English spoken, much harder sell, more bargaining. But the prices are also much cheaper and the range of products much greater than at Stanley. It%26#39;s really easy to get there by MTR train, and the mall is right at the Lo Wu train station and border crossing. Most shops accept HK dollars. US citizens need a China visa obtained in advance (available in HK from travel agents or from Immigration in Wanchai - bring extra passport photos and allow a couple of days for processing). Be sure to take advantage of the low cost massage and manicure services available. Have a great time in HK!

Stanley is wonderful because of the wild bus ride there with great views of the Island. Shopping is good for silk bags etc, scarves, some clothes, silk dressing gowns, souvenirs and bits and pieces. Lo Wu in Shenzhen is great for handbags, sunglasses, jewellery, DVDs, shoes, clothes, knock off stuff etc It%26#39;s much bigger. We even had custom made curtains made there and they are beautiful and very cheap.
