Getting Around Huangshan

I%26#39;m planning a trip to Huangshan in late Apr/early May. Have been doing a lot of research but I can%26#39;t find an answer to this - how do you get around in Huangshan? Will be flying into Huangshan from Beijing; plan to stay 2 or 3 nights at the summit. I%26#39;m sure we can take a taxi to the airport or ask the hotel about airport transfer. But, how do people get from point A to point B (ie. hotel to the cable car station)? Mostly by foot or is taxi easily available or hire a private taxi by the day through the hotel?

Getting Around Huangshan

Once again I have to inform travellers about the differences in place names in that area.

Do you mean Huangshan the mountain, or Huangshan the city aka Tunxi?

On the mountain itself apart from cable cars, you can only walk. Or if you%26#39;re splurging you can also get sedan-chair-bearers to carry you from place to place.

If you%26#39;re coming from the airport, I think the furthest you could go by taxi would be to any of the lower station of the 3 cable cars: Taiping, Yungu and Yuping.

Getting Around Huangshan

Oopps, sorry.. I meant the Mt. Huangshan. We%26#39;re only interested with the mountains and the Tunxi Ancient St. Should reserve couple of hours checking out Tunxi at the END of our trip...this way we won%26#39;t have to haul souvenirs (if we get any) along the trip. So then my question would be is it easy to get a taxi from the airport to the hotels that are located at the peak? Probably best to ask after I have decided on which hotel. Nonetheless, is taxi easily available say from the mt.gate entrance to downtown, etc.? Do the taxis run by meter?

I repeat. No taxis will be able to get you anywhere near the hotels in the summit area. Did you read my previous answer carefully?

You don%26#39;t have to take taxi all the way back to Tunxi. There%26#39;re minibuses running from Taiping and Tangkou back to Tunxi for only about 15 RMB/pax. Thus your last question is redundant.

how do we go to Taiping Cable car..and how much is the fare?

From where? Tunxi or Taiping, or somewhere else?

Taiping cable car costs 65 RMB (or is it 66?) each way. No discounts.

if i stay at Tunxi..which cable car station is the nearest..and how many entrance are there to the mountain..entrance fees and cable cars fares are different?

Either Yungu or Yuping, both reachable by bus from Tangkou. However Taiping cable car has the best views.

Basically 2 main ';gates';, Taiping is the north and Tangkou is the south.

Cable car fares are all the same.

is the entrance and exit the same point/same location?

the return journey will we passing the same spot on the return journey on the mountain

I follow this post with interest, as I am planning similar trip end of May. My plan is to fly from Shanghai to Tunxi, stay there overnight (Huaxi, Huashan or what is best hotel?) as the flight arrives late evening, leave my main luggage there at the hotel, and then take minibus to cable car, stay on the mountain (Paiyunlo or Beihai Hotel???), get down again next day, back to Tunxi by minibus, pick up my luggage at Tunxi, and leave late night by train to Nanjing. Does this make sense. Any advise is highly appreciated.
