Terracotta Warriors without a guide?

Is it advisable to visit the Terracotta Warriors without a guide? just taking a taxi. We are not in Xi%26#39;an for long (just one full day and part of an afternoon and morning) and want to make the most of it. We are a bit concerned about going on a tour which will take up a whole day! Any advice about whether we can do the other main attractions without a guide would be great.

Many thanks

Terracotta Warriors without a guide?

I got straight off the train from Beijing into a taxi and straight to terracotta warriors. The taxi then dropped us at our hotel. Its a decent trip out there, possibly an hour.

We did not use a guide once out there, l honestly do not understand why you would need one.

We had the same amount of time in Xian as you have, and this was our main reason for going there, very do~able!

I%26#39;m thinking of doing the same thing. How much was the cab ride there? Did you consider taking the bus?

We just returned- took the local bus there from the train station-it took about 45 minutes but was a real experience. When we got there we hired a local guide who was outside. We were glad we did as she really added to our experience. Took the local bus back and a taxi to our hotel. In the evening we walked around the moslem quarter which was interesting. We visited the mosque the next morning and then did the museum as it was raining. We loved our time there.

Was the bus crowded?

I%26#39;m debating taking the bus or a taxi. The price for a taxi is here somewhere, search ';taxi warriors';. The bus 7 yuan?

But I%26#39;m picturing 45 minutes standing, holding onto a bar a foot above my head, or getting a seat, and having someone sit on my lap.

it%26#39;s not always crowded. Most of passengers are tourists. There are 21 stops from rail station to Terror~~ the first bus of the day is at 7:00 and the last one is at 18:30. When you return, the last one leaves at 18:10 from Terror.....

The ticket is 7 yuan and 35 mins there.

why not see more about Xi%26#39;an? Night views in Xi%26#39;an city cannot be found in any other city in China. It%26#39;s totally Chinese style...and I don%26#39;t really recommend you to Muslim street , anyway, I %26#39;ll write more to share recently :) hope you get you what you want .

we did not find the bus to be a problem. You want to make sure that you get on the public public bus and not the private public bus as the private one will take back roads- we got the private one on the way back and it was quite bumpy. Not crowded at all though we were not there at prime tourist season. I disagree with the other post we found the moslem quarter to be quite interesting. But everyone is different and has their own likes.

Goodness, I almost thought that person was talking about terrorists! Although the 1st Qin Emperor was probably the terrorist in his day, in his own right...

I have a pretty detailed description of how to find the public bus 306 that goes from the Xi%26#39;an train station to the Terracotta Warriors: members.virtualtourist.com/m/1d57/f3840/9/…

take the taxi or bu bus is also quite nicne

may be you got one english map is better

as for the inofrmation of warriors, you can check the introuction in fetail by interent

Good luck

I took a cab last Tuesday for RMB 200. That%26#39;s round trip (City - Museum - City) with the driver waiting just outside the museum parking lot while you see the warriors and their horses.

Do prepare 10 RMB x two for the toll fees.

Take note though that these taxis have a certain time where they would go home and if you are out of the way, they will just drop you somewhere near their garage.

I think wikitravel has a more detailed explanation about this. :)

I checked private cars from a few travel agents and the average rate is at RMB 500. They will pick you up whichever hotel you are in Xi%26#39;an.

For those who are spending a lot of money to get to and stay in Xi%26#39;an, may I suggest the book, The Qin Terracotta Army, Treasures of Lintong'; by Zhang Wenli.

It is a great book, available in the US through Amazon. Since it was first published by Scala Books in London, it probably is available there also. As with many places in China, I would rather trust a DK Guide or scholarly book on the subject than a guide picked up along the way. Just a thought.
