Best way to travel from Beijing to Shanghai?

Hi... I%26#39;ll be in Beijing in May and would like to travel one way to Shanghai. Expedia.com had a one way fare for $190.00 US. I don%26#39;t want to buy it because I don%26#39;t know what date I want to fly. Will the fare be any less if I wait until I get to China to buy it?

What about a train or bus? Or can I hire a private driver?

Thanks!

Expedia.com has its China parterner www.elong.com

So when you search in US, you come to Expedia.com

When you search in China you come to elong.

The price is too high compared with china elong.

It should be less than 100 $, there are discount airticket

you can buy in your hotel. It is the same price as you buy from internet.

There are trains to shanghai of course.

Some member of the forum said Z train is comfortable.

Bus or car would be tiring.

I drive from Beijing to Shanghai in April.

It is all high way but 10 hours driving make you exhausted.

I recommand you to hire a driver for beijing visit and then another one in shanghai.

Thanks, Robert.

My book says the train is about a 15 hour trip. Is that correct?

Also, how much is a train ticket?

Thanks for your help.

Best IMHO would be soft sleeper on the overnight trains.

Here%26#39;s a lowdown on the train choices for this route. Listed from the best quality train to the lousiest quality -- in terms of comfort.

1) Daytime D train (10 hours): 2nd-class seat 452 RMB, 1st-class seat 542 RMB

1) Overnight Z train (11.5 hours): soft seat 283 RMB, soft sleeper 478/499 RMB for upper/lower bunk

2) Overnight T train (13 hours): hard seat 179 RMB, hard sleeper 306/317/327 RMB for upper/middle/lower bunk, soft sleeper 478/499 RMB for upper/lower bunk

3) K train (19.5+ hours): can never get decent tickets, so don%26#39;t bother with this

4) Lousy slow train (23+ hours): hard seat 88 RMB, hard sleeper 176/183/190 RMB, soft sleeper 290/304 RMB

I wouldn%26#39;t suggest going by hard seat, it%26#39;s really too traumatic and not worth the savings. The D train is too expensive and a waste of money. The hard sleepers for the T trains are almost impossible to get so don%26#39;t count on them. My best options would be soft sleeper or soft seat on the Z trains.

if i were you ,i choose the trian soft sleeper more comfortanble

Thank you Elyse and Jeff.

I have another question about Beijing. I read that there is a shooting range near Beijing where you can shoot military weapons for a fee. Do you have any information on that? It sounds fun and unusual.

Thanks!

Did a simple Google and got quite a number of results for you. The place is called China North International Shooting Range.

ok thank you. I realize that. I just find that information from insiders is a lot more insightful than a random google search.

Thanks again!
