Hi,

I am arriving in Shanghai at about 6pm at night and was hoping to pick up a set of golf clubs straight away.

I have been told there are some golf shops at the above address but was wondering if anyone can tell me what time they shut and what time they open as I have to play golf the following day at 10.00am in the morning.

Also does anyone else know where I can get some golf clubs from.

There are about 10 shops selling Golf Clubs in that shopping centre, it is definitely the best place to go.

If you go directly from the airport to the Shopping centre, it will take one hour in a taxi.

They begin to close about 9pm, so i wouldn%26#39;t waste time going to the hotel first.

The taxi driver will wait for you, offer him 50rmb to wait,

The top price you should pay for a fullo set with everything is 400 aussie, alot less if you are a good bargainer, so loose that desperate shopper routine and you will save your taxi fare.

Thank you for that. I am staying at the Pudong Shangri la Hotel how far is this from HongMei Lu.

Also is it safe for me to leave my suitcase and luggage in the taxi while I go into the Markets. I will also have a laptop with me and would really prefer to leave this all at the hotel if it is close by as I would be pretty upset if I lost all of my luggage.

I have heard of people picking up a full set of Callaway clubs, plus bag, travel bag and shoes for $200.00 AUD. is this possible if you are good at bargaining as I know they got this at the Shanghai markets but as I am short on time do not have time to go from Market to Market.

Well, the Pudong Shangri-La is about two-thirds of the way to the market from Pudong airport, I reckon.

If you like, I could arrange with my regular cabbie to pick you up at the airport, drive you to the market, wait for you with the luggage and then drive you to the hotel to check-in. Would that work for you? I know for certain that they%26#39;re totally trustworthy so you can set your mind at ease for that.

Thank you that is a very generous offer.

If I am two thirds of the way there and my hotel is on the way I will drop my stuff off at the hotel as I would more than likely take an hour or 2 to buy the golf clubs as I may need to negotiate the best price in a couple of shops as I do not want to pay to much and this may cost me a bit of money if I keep the taxi waiting for me.

Am I better to pre-order a taxi from the airport or can I just catch one there as I will be in a hurry to leave the airport. Maybe I could use your taxi driver??

I am always amazed at people who here a story from a friend how cheaply they bought something in CHina.

Yes I think it is possible to buy a set of golf clubs for $200 USD, but remember when you get there and you want this extra or that extra and different to the standard set you will pay for it.

Your friend might have bought something they really wanted to sell or in a low season time when they needed the business, so don%26#39;t get too upset if you have to pay more for what you want. Also this is a cash transaction, don%26#39;t turn up there with your credit card, there is no CC access at Hong Qiao Pearl City, the building you are going too.

Cash is what I would be paying with. Is it better to have USD or RMB or AUD.

My mate a very good friend got his set for 1300.00 RMB in the Shanghai Markets I think it was the old Xiangyang Markets which is now shut so the price might not be achievable that is why I was asking about the prices.

The cash is in RMB, this is not Indonesia, the RMB is currently likely to strengthen against the USD, so no vendors would be looking to take USD.

Go to the ATM while still at the airport. You are truley going way out of your way to do this transaction, basically one side of the city to the other. My husband took his clubsto the driving range at Silport, and his Calloway Club head flew right off!
