Just outside arrival. Use A21 last week. It was HK$33.

Get the On-Loan Octopus which is refundable along with the HK$50 deposit (minus HK$7 handling fee for cards returned within three months).

You can buy at the Airport Express service counter in the arrivals hall after you come out of the luggage reclaim.

At either of the Airport Express Customer Service Counters in the Arrivals Hall.

I made the mistake of trying to buy my Octopus card at the outside Airport Express ticket desk, near the bus pick-up area. They don%26#39;t sell Octopus cards there! Make sure you get yours in the arrival hall.

I think they only accept cash for Octopus card?

You can pay credit card for Airport Express though

Anyone reading this and wondering what an Octopus card is, well if you are going to HK then BUY ONE!

Buy one immediately at the airport, don%26#39;t wait to find out!

You use it on the trams, the MTR rail system, buses and other outlets.

It means you do not have to find change, but instead put your wallet or purse against the scanner and it debits the small amount for the trip. And shows you the balance.

Also, I boarded a bus without enough credits on the card, but it just accepted me, which is very practical. It was something like 5 dollars balance, cost of trip 9, balance -4. They aren%26#39;t worried about 25 UK pence.

It%26#39;s the cleverest system I have seen in use anywhere in the world. Why is everyone else still printing tickets???

That%26#39;s because you%26#39;ve already put a $50 deposit when you ';purchased'; the card. It will allow a negative balance once, but after that you%26#39;ll have to top up the card to continue using it.

The Octopus Card can be used to a negative balance of up to minus HK$35 (if you hand the card in when you leave HK and it is still in negative balance this is deducted from the HK$50 deposit less HK$7 handling fee which is due to be returned to you)
