Question on mid-levels escalator

My wife and I are visiting Hong Kong in May. We plan on riding the escalator to the various neighborhoods in Central that are along the escalator route. I read that it takes about 20 minutes to ride it to the top. How long does it take to walk back down, since it only goes in one direction? We%26#39;re wondering if it makes more sense to take a taxi back down. Thank you.

Question on mid-levels escalator

About 1/2 hr -45m from memory. Steep downhill,in parts obviously. But I wasn%26#39;t hurrying. Just strolling along looking at stuff. Wasn%26#39;t stopping much tho. Could do it quicker I think if fit and moving. Most people take their time though. There%26#39;s things to see. Could be a bit hard on legs if not used to hills.

Question on mid-levels escalator

It should only take nominally longer walking down than riding up, since the escalators aren%26#39;t moving much faster than normal walking speed.

Thank you for the responses. It is helpful in our planning.

I actually suggest that you allow a couple of hours to explore the area. The fun is not in the escalator itself but the places around it. From Queen%26#39;s Road Central riding up, you will pass by Luk Yu Tea House, a fresh food market, Lyndhurst Terrace and its sidestreets where they are popular spots for filming TV soaps, then Hollywood Road and finally, Soho. The walk down is very quick. You can do it in 10 minutes.
