Jiuzhaigou/ Huanglong- how to get there via public transport

What is the name of the nearest train station to Jiuzhaigou/ Huanglong area? Is it at Chengdu or is there one nearer?

I will be travelling from Xian to Jiuzhaigou area. What is the best way to get to Jiuzhaigou- via bus, train, flight or a mixture? Please advise.

Is it possible to travel to these scenic area independently and via public transport OR is it a must to to join a public tour? Where should be my base during my stay in this area?

The nearest ';major-ish'; train station to Jiuzhaigou would be Guangyuan.

If you can afford it, and the flight schedules allow, the best way would be to fly.

There%26#39;s absolutely NO NEED to join a tour! In fact, it%26#39;s much better NOT to join one!

I am not able to find the airline that flies the route Xian- Chengdu.

Please advise the airlines, website, time and day of its schedule and tentative fare.

I will travel to China in mid Sept to early Oct 07.

I suggested that you fly Xi%26#39;an -- Jiuzhaigou, not necessarily Xi%26#39;an -- Chengdu.

The simple reason for your not being able to find out what airlines are flying this route is that you%26#39;re looking far too early in advance! I wouldn%26#39;t expect to be checking for September/October 2008 till at least June 2008 or so. Price will depend on how much discount is available.

We flew Xi%26#39;an -- Jiuzhaigou on Sichuan Airlines in late September 2006.

Hi Ellyse,

Can you still remember what time was your flight Xian- JZG? At least it gives me some tentative timing for me for planning purpose.

I remembered you mentioned somewhere in this forum that Hainan Airlines fly this route too. Any idea what is the schedule? Can%26#39;t locate this information from its website.

Tks.

It was sometime around 1700, on Sichuan Airlines. I think this year they%26#39;re flying at 1200 and 2145. That%26#39;s the only airline that I know of doing the route as of now.

What hotel do you recommend in Jiuzhaigou that is easy to get to from the airport, and also convenient to go to the National Park? What type of public transportations are available or do we taxi everywhere. Is it highly recommended to go to Huanglong, despite the possibility of Acute High Altitude Sickness?

There%26#39;re literally tons of hotels lining the road for a couple of km leading up to the park entrance. I don%26#39;t have any particular recommendations.

There%26#39;re shuttle buses (pretty limited it seems) from Jiuzhaigou airport to around the park entrance area. Otherwise you can simply take a taxi, and it%26#39;s a fixed price, indicated quite clearly at the taxi queue.

Is Sichuan Airlines the only airline flying between Xian and Jiuzhaigou? I plan to travel this route in October. I understand it is too early to book for October. I randomly check some dates in May just to have some idea of the flight times. They have 2 flights a day Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but these are all sold out. Rest of the week days, there is only one flight a day. It just looks very strange!!!! Is it possible that all Tuesdays and Wednesdays flights in May are sold out, or they are not releasing these flights yet, or Ctrip cannot book these flights?

It%26#39;s the only airline that I know of so far. I don%26#39;t know what the airlines have planned to do for the rest of the year.

Probably ';sold out'; as they haven%26#39;t even started selling them yet!
