New Malls in HK: Which ones are worth visiting?

whatever you fancy...

elements - more of high end stuff

megabox - still not fully occupied. best known for two homeware shops - spotlight and b %26amp; q. and best is there too (an electronic shop)

citygate outlet - for supposedly factory price name brands. but in my opinion, prices in town are competitive.

festival walk - similar to elements

hong kong has many districts not in the central of things, and malls such as the ones you mention service service the needs of the residents there. fyi

also most of the malls mentioned are managed by the same property managment therefore the feel is quite similar to each other. for example festival walk, citygate and pacific place are managed by swire.

try jusco and apita in tai koo shing.

and for outlets, i found this link which could be useful although it has been written in 2006

New Malls in HK: Which ones are worth visiting?

Langham Place: awful and confusing layout, a very annoying mall.

Megabox: couple of unique stores as mentioned, but prices aren%26#39;t that competitive and not really convenient.

Elements: mostly high-end, similar to Pacific Place, comfortable to walk around but you won%26#39;t find any bargains there.

Citygate: agree that prices in town are just as competitive with better selections. Nevertheless, a good detour if you are taking the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to see Big Buddha.

Festival Walk: actually not as high-end as Elements, but you can find the same stores everywhere, no need to make a trip to Kowloon Tong.

APM: relatively small shopping mall that is ok.

Harbour City is very crowded overall but has the most complete selection of stores. Walk around Canton Road and you can shop forever. Times Square has a good selection of stores as well plus you can get to Sogo with a 5 minute walk across the street. There are many smaller shops there as well.

actually i really enjoyed harbour city and times square. just wanted to try something new.

i have to agree that most new malls cater to the residents of the district.

since i will most probably staying in quarry bay on my next trip, might as well drop by the malls in tai koo.

i found the interior of langham place creative, but it seems the mall%26#39;s layout may just be as abstract.

festival walk has a massive pageone (if you are into books) and HK records - better than HMV or similar IMO. Definitely worth a trip.

Megabox also quite interesting - my favourite place at the moment being the Cheesecake cafe.

Langham Place has a good selection of resturants and looks pretty funky. Yes, it is difficult to navigate but personally I like wandering and don%26#39;t mind the odd wrong turn as you can find some gems like that (much like wandering around Mongkok in general).

i read about apita and jusco in another thread.

whats there to see? is it like the mitsukoshi/matsuzakaya before?

or are they more similar to citysuper?

Apita and Jusco are not as upscale as Citysuper.

The two are somewhat similar, having most stuff a department store would carry, in addition to consignment counters (cosmetics, etc) and food courts. Apita carries more Japanese brands, while Jusco is more localized.

They are quite bread and butter, and not really exciting places to shop. But it%26#39;s a fresh change if you get tired of seeing similar stores in other malls.

i see. thanks.
